Arsenal, Barcelona and Sporting CP made it two wins from two on a dramatic Tuesday. Manchester United lost 2-0 in Madrid, Bayern conceded a stoppage-time equaliser in Norway and Club Brugge won a seven-goal thriller at San Siro.
Tuesday night’s Champions League matchday 2 produced nine results and several surprises. Arsenal, Barcelona and Sporting CP are now the only clubs from the first night of fixtures with six points from two games, while Bayern Munich, Inter and Manchester United all had evenings to forget.
Atlético Madrid 2-0 Manchester United: Pablo Barrios scored after just 53 seconds at the Metropolitano. United’s task became harder when Leny Yoro was sent off following a VAR review, and Ademola Lookman sealed Atlético’s win in the 77th minute. Both clubs now have three points.
Viking 3-3 Bayern Munich: on an artificial pitch in Norway, Bayern fell two goals behind before Harry Kane scored twice to lead the comeback. Bayern went 3-2 ahead, but Michael Olise was sent off and Herman Johan Haugen equalised in stoppage time, leaving the German champions on four points.
Inter 3-4 Club Brugge: the highest-scoring game of the night went to the visitors. Nicolò Tresoldi scored a hat-trick and Romeo Vermant got the decisive goal for Brugge. Lautaro Martínez scored twice and Ange-Yoan Bonny added a late goal, but Inter have now lost both of their league-phase games.
Arsenal 3-0 Lille: after a goalless first half, Jurriën Timber opened the scoring and Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka added the second and third. Galatasaray 1-4 Barcelona: the hosts scored first, João Cancelo equalised before half-time and Lamine Yamal set up two goals as Barcelona pulled away.
Elsewhere, Villarreal beat Napoli 3-1, leaving Napoli without a point; RB Leipzig edged PSV 1-0; Sporting won 2-0 at Lens; and Sabah beat Slavia Prague 2-0 in their first Champions League home game. Matchday 2 concludes on Wednesday 14 October, headlined by Manchester City against Paris Saint-Germain and Roma against Real Madrid.
