From four loan spells to Tottenham’s and England’s all-time record scorer, two Bundesliga titles with Bayern and the 2026 Ballon d’Or: a complete guide to Harry Kane’s career, his numbers and how he plays.

Key points

  • Harry Kane (born 28 July 1993) is the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, Tottenham’s all-time top scorer (280 goals) and England’s record scorer.
  • In 2025-26 he scored 73 goals in 65 games for Bayern Munich and England.
  • He has won two Bundesliga titles and the DFB Cup with Bayern but has not won the Champions League.

Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d’Or on 26 October after the most prolific season of his career. This profile covers who he is, where he has played, his goals and records, and what makes him different from other centre-forwards.

Harry Kane at a glance

Full name: Harry Edward Kane. Born: 28 July 1993 in Walthamstow, London. Club: Bayern Munich (since 2023). Country: England, captain and record goalscorer. Position: centre-forward. Major honours: Bundesliga 2024-25 and 2025-26, DFB Cup 2025-26, Ballon d’Or 2026.

Early career: four loans before the breakthrough

Kane came through Tottenham’s academy but did not go straight into the first team. He was loaned to Leyton Orient in 2010-11 and Millwall in 2011-12, then to Norwich and Leicester. He has called his path one that “didn’t go straight to the top”, and it is a big part of his story: a player who was not seen as a certain star at 19 became one of the best finishers in the world.

Tottenham: the club’s all-time record scorer

Kane broke through at Spurs in 2014-15 and became their all-time leading scorer, passing Jimmy Greaves in February 2023. He scored 280 goals for the club, won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2015-16 and 2016-17, and was the first Spurs player to reach 100 Premier League goals. He left as the second-highest scorer in Premier League history with 213 goals, but without a major trophy.

Bayern Munich: goals and, finally, trophies

Kane joined Bayern in 2023 and the goals continued: he won the European Golden Shoe in his first season, then the Bundesliga title in 2024-25. His 2025-26 season was historic. He scored 61 goals in 51 games for Bayern, including 36 in the Bundesliga, 10 in the DFB Cup and 14 in the Champions League, the most by an Englishman in one edition. Bayern won the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup and the Supercup, and he took the Golden Shoe for a second time. In February 2026 he scored the 500th goal of his career, in a win at Werder Bremen.

England: captain and record scorer

Kane passed Wayne Rooney to become England’s all-time top scorer and has captained his country at several major tournaments. He won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup and shared it at Euro 2024. At the 2026 World Cup he scored six goals as England reached the semi-finals and finished third, their best result since 1966. Across club and country in 2025-26, he scored 73 goals in 65 games.

How does Harry Kane play?

Kane is a centre-forward who plays like a number 10 as well. He scores with both feet and with his head, and he is one of the best penalty takers in the world: around a fifth of his first 500 career goals came from the spot. What sets him apart is what he does when he drops deep. He receives the ball between the lines, turns, and plays long passes into the space behind defences for wide players to run onto. At Bayern, that combination with fast wingers such as Michael Olise and Luis Díaz has been one of the main sources of goals.

His weakness, if there is one, is pace in a straight race, which is why he rarely plays on the shoulder of the last defender. He compensates with timing, movement in the box and a range of passing that few strikers have.
