A 7–0 rout at the Allianz Arena was the Bundesliga’s biggest home win of the season so far — but Borussia Dortmund still led the table after four straight wins.
Bayern Munich delivered the statement result of the early Bundesliga season on 18 September, thrashing Union Berlin 7–0 at the Allianz Arena. It was the biggest home win of the campaign at that point.
Even so, Bayern were not top. Borussia Dortmund had won all four of their opening matches to lead on 12 points, two clear of Bayern and SC Freiburg, who had both taken 10 points.
Freiburg are one of the early surprises, with Igor Matanović and Yuito Suzuki among a group of players tied at the top of the scoring charts on three goals. Mainz also caught the eye with a 5–0 win away at Hamburg.
Bayern also carried that form into Europe, opening their Champions League campaign with a 5–0 win over Bodø/Glimt. Dortmund, meanwhile, began with a 3–2 home win over Villarreal and travel to Bodø/Glimt on Matchday 2.
