El Clásico preview: Barcelona vs Real Madrid at Camp Nou, Mourinho’s first Clásico back, and the head-to-head record

Unbeaten Barcelona host Real Madrid on Sunday 25 October with a six-point lead over their rivals. Kick-off time, team form, key players and the all-time record between the two clubs.

The first league Clásico of the 2026-27 season is played at Camp Nou on Sunday 25 October, with kick-off at 21:00 local time. That is 04:00 on Monday 26 October in Beijing, because Spain moves back to winter time that same morning.

The table

Barcelona arrive with a perfect league record: nine wins from nine games and 27 points. Real Madrid are third on 21 points, six behind, after winning seven of their nine games; Atlético Madrid sit between them on 22. A Barcelona win would open a nine-point gap over Madrid before the end of October, while a Madrid win would cut the gap to three.

Barcelona: goals from everywhere

Barcelona’s attack has been the story of the Spanish season. Raphinha and Lamine Yamal have shared the scoring load, including a Raphinha hat-trick in a 3-1 win at Sevilla in September, and the team won 5-0 at both Elche and Valencia in the opening weeks. In Europe they came from behind to beat Galatasaray 4-1, with Yamal providing two assists. Their one concern is the schedule: they play Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, five days before the Clásico.

Real Madrid: Mourinho’s second act

This is José Mourinho’s first Clásico since returning to the Bernabéu in June on a three-year deal. In his first spell from 2010 to 2013 he won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup, and his Clásicos with Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona defined that era. Madrid arrive in form after a 4-1 win over Sevilla on 18 October, in which Kylian Mbappé scored twice, and a dramatic 4-3 comeback win at Roma in the Champions League. They host RB Leipzig on Wednesday.

The head-to-head record

According to Wikipedia’s record of the fixture, the two clubs had met 264 times in all official competitions up to May 2026, with 106 wins each and 52 draws. In La Liga alone, Real Madrid led 80 wins to 77, with 35 draws. The most recent Clásico, on 10 May 2026, ended in a 2-0 Barcelona win. The record margins are a reminder of how long this rivalry runs: Real Madrid beat Barcelona 11-1 in the Copa del Generalísimo in 1943, and Barcelona’s biggest win is 7-2 in 1950.

What to watch

Three questions will decide the game. Can Real Madrid’s midfield slow Barcelona’s possession and stop Yamal on the right? Can Mbappé exploit the space behind a Barcelona side that pushes its full-backs high? And how much will Tuesday and Wednesday’s Champions League games take out of both squads? Whatever the score, the result will shape the title race well beyond October.
