Champions League Matchday 2: City host PSG as Europe’s heavyweights collide

Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain both won their openers in style. On 14 October they meet at the Etihad, headlining a two-night Matchday 2 that also sends Real Madrid to Rome.

The Champions League league phase resumes on 13–14 October, and Matchday 2 has a heavyweight feel. The standout fixture is Manchester City against Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad on Wednesday, a meeting of two sides that both made perfect starts in September.

City opened their campaign with a 2–0 win away at Porto, while PSG were ruthless at home, beating Slovan Bratislava 6–1 to top the early league-phase table.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Real Madrid travel to Roma after edging Inter 2–1 in their opener, and Liverpool visit LASK. Tuesday’s card includes Atlético Madrid against Manchester United, Arsenal at home to Lille and Galatasaray hosting Barcelona, who started with a 5–1 win over Feyenoord.

With 36 teams and only eight league-phase games each, early points matter: the top eight go straight to the round of 16, so a win in a marquee fixture like City–PSG can shape the path to the knockout rounds.
