Nine clubs began the season with a new manager. A club-by-club guide to every Premier League head coach in 2026-27, with the summer changes and how each new boss has started.
The 2026-27 Premier League season began after an unusually busy summer in the dugouts. Nine clubs started the season with a different manager from the one who began the previous campaign, including Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle. Here is the full list, with the table as it stood after matches on 18 October.
The new arrivals
Manchester City — Enzo Maresca: appointed on 29 June after Pep Guardiola stepped down, Maresca had won all seven league games and led the table on 21 points. Liverpool — Andoni Iraola: hired on 4 June after Arne Slot was sacked, he had Liverpool fifth on 12 points. Chelsea — Xabi Alonso: in charge since 1 July, Chelsea were fourth on 13 points.
Newcastle United — Matthias Jaissle: appointed on 5 August after Eddie Howe resigned; Newcastle were 11th. Nottingham Forest — Oliver Glasner: moved from Crystal Palace and appointed on 6 July after Vítor Pereira was sacked; Forest were 18th. Crystal Palace — Pierre Sage: arrived from Lens on 15 June to replace Glasner; Palace were 14th.
Bournemouth — Marco Rose: replaced Andoni Iraola on 1 June. Fulham — Álvaro Arbeloa: appointed on 7 July after Marco Silva’s contract ended. Ipswich Town — Gary O’Neil: appointed on 23 June after Kieran McKenna resigned; Ipswich were 10th, a strong start back in the top flight.
The established names
Arsenal — Mikel Arteta, in charge since December 2019 and second in the table on 18 points. Aston Villa — Unai Emery. Brighton & Hove Albion — Fabian Hürzeler, whose side were third on 16 points. Everton — David Moyes. Brentford — Keith Andrews. Leeds United — Daniel Farke. Sunderland — Régis Le Bris.
Promoted clubs and recent appointments
Coventry City — Frank Lampard. Hull City — Sergej Jakirović. Manchester United — Michael Carrick, confirmed as permanent manager after his spell in interim charge; United were 13th. Tottenham Hotspur — Roberto De Zerbi, who took over in March 2026 on a five-year deal; Spurs were bottom with three points from six games.
Who is under pressure?
Early-season tables can mislead, but some situations stand out. Tottenham’s start leaves De Zerbi needing results quickly, and Nottingham Forest and Sunderland are in the bottom three alongside them. At the top, Maresca’s City have been perfect in the league, but the club is also dealing with the Premier League’s guilty verdict on financial breaches, announced on 29 September, with sanctions still to be decided.
